La Turquie intensifie ses efforts pour entraver les principaux projets d'infrastructure impliquant la Grèce et Chypre en Méditerranée orientale, en particulier l'interconnexion de la Grande Mer (GSI) et le corridor de données de l'Est à Med (CEM). Ankara tire parti de sa revendication de "plateau continental turc" pour créer des obstacles géopolitiques, affectant la viabilité des projets et causant des retards importants.
Les projets GSI et EMC créent un nouvel axe de connectivité reliant la Grèce, Chypre, Israël et l'Arabie saoudite à l'Europe. La Turquie considère ces initiatives comme une tentative de la contourner et de diminuer son influence régionale.
